On 13 November 2027, exactly sixty years to the day that Pink Floyd played a concert in the Netherlands for the first and last time with Syd Barrett, a book about those sixty years will be published. After two previous editions in Dutch, this final edition will be published in English. I will keep you posted on the progress.

 

ROCK CIRCUS

I've begun collecting additional material for the Lowlands Paradise book. There are certain loose ends from the 1960s that need to be addressed. I'll also be selecting the visuals. At a non-music event, I met someone who worked as a stagehand at the Amsterdam Rock Circus in 1972. He had taken many rolls of film of the performers (including Pink Floyd, mercifully, from the stage), the stadium, and the spectators. A suitable selection has now been scanned. It has been a rewarding job.

1000 DAYS

Today, it is 1000 days until the publication of PINK FLOYD TO LOWLANDS PARADISE and not only that. 17 February is a special day in the history of Pink Floyd and the Netherlands. On 17 February 1968, the group played its first concerts abroad with new member David Gilmour in Vlissingen and Terneuzen in the province of Zeeland. For a long time, the story went that they had already done so a year earlier, in June 1967, and thus still with Syd Barrett, but those concerts were only announced and never took place. Pink Floyd would play in Vlissingen again later in 1968. The Concertgebouw (like the Amsterdam venue with a hyphen) was used until a few years ago, but is now being converted into an apartment complex or hotel.
